Telemarketing Scam

05/31/2013

Over the past few weeks, the Knox County Sheriff's Department has received numerous calls regarding a new telemarketing scam being conducted in the Knox County area.

The scammer calls the victims with an offer to install a free security system in their homes. During the course of the conversation the scammer tries to obtain the victim's personal information which will ultimately be used for Identity Theft.

The telephone being used most often in this area is (417) 800-2360 but these calls can come from any phone number, even one appearing to be local.

The Sheriff's Department urges anyone receiving calls regarding a free home security system or similar offer to immediately hang up and end the call.
