At 2005hrs, the Knox County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a fight in progress at the Mary Davis Detention Home. Dispatch further advised that at least 10 juveniles were actively battering staff. Multiple agencies responded, including; Galesburg Police Department and the Knoxville Police Department.

Upon arrival, entry was made and multiple juveniles were secured and returned to their cells. Multiple staff members were injured and some were transported to the hospital due to their injuries.

This incident was initially described as a fight, but quickly morphed into a riot in multiple areas of the facility. Upon arrival of responding officers, all of the juveniles were secured and assessments were made of the injured staff and juveniles. The interior of the facility had also sustained significant damage from the juveniles.

In total, 8 staff members were injured. 2 juveniles were treated and released at the facility.
