THE KNOX COUNTY SHERIFF’S AUXILIARY

The Knox County Sheriff's
Auxiliary 2015
The History and Duties of The Sheriff's Auxiliary
The Knox County Sheriff's Department's Auxiliary started out as the Sheriff's Posse. The Posse was a group of dedicated, community minded volunteers who, when needed, assisted the Sheriff or his Deputies with various duties and assignments throughout Knox County.
The basic duties and assignments of the Sheriff's Auxiliary have, for the most part, remained the same since the days of the Sheriff's Posse. These duties include guarding and transporting inmates from the Knox County Jail and assisting with community events such as the Knox County Fair. The Sheriff's Auxiliary is also called upon to assist Deputies during times of severe weather and natural disasters. Auxiliary members routinely assist Deputies at traffic crashes and crimes scenes by providing traffic control and security. The Sheriff's Auxiliary also works side by side with with Deputies on Patrol, in the Jail and Courthouse.
Many Knox County County Deputies began their careers in Law Enforcement as a member of the Sheriff's Auxiliary. The time these Deputies spent on the Auxiliary gave them hands on experience in the Jail, the Court House and on Patrol. Being part of the Sheriff's Auxiliary is highly recommended for anyone who is considering testing for a position with the Knox County Sheriff's Department.
